Stewart vs. Cramer

If you watch The Daily Show or read the finance blogs you know about the feud that has been going on between Jon Stewart and Jim Cramer. Cramer has this whackadoodle show Mad Money on CNBC where he bangs gongs and uses other sound effects like a cow mooing to get his points across. Stewart called him out for misleading the public and manipulating the information that he puts on the air. To be fair, Stewart also called out most of the hacks that seem to be in the pockets of some of the companies they endorse becuse these endorsements have caused viewers to lose a lot of money.
Cramer did the stand-up thing and went on The Daily show to discuss it, even going so far to say that he would change but he was back to his same antics the next day. And now a memo has leaked from the powers that be at MSNBC. In it reporters were told not to mention the feud and they all followed their orders like good little soldiers. Since when is a healthy dialogue a bad thing? I have to wonder if their numbers are tanking, why wouldn't they milk the hell out of this story? Bad publicity is still publicity and people would tune in to see what Cramer or Stewart would say next.
Below is the clip from Jon Stewart's show and it is riviting television. God, I hope this feud goes on and on and on....

Topless Coffee Shop

The economy sucks right now so some entrepreneur in Maine opened up a topless coffee shop and the business has been great so far. One waitress got a $100 tip and they average $30 per table in this small town of 4,500. I, for one, am all for it but I have one question; can I get my latte with extra cream? I'll spare you all the other dumb puns that are running through my brain.

Quote of the day

Part of the debtor mentality is a constant, frantically suppressed undercurrent of terror. We have one of the highest debt-to-income ratios in the world, and apparently most of us are two paychecks from the street. Those in power -- governments, employers -- exploit this, to great effect. Frightened people are obedient -- not just physically, but intellectually and emotionally. If your employer tells you to work overtime, and you know that refusing could jeopardize everything you have, then not only do you work the overtime, but you convince yourself that you're doing it voluntarily, out of loyalty to the company; because the alternative is to acknowledge that you are living in terror. Before you know it, you've persuaded yourself that you have a profound emotional attachment to some vast multinational corporation: you've indentured not just your working hours, but your entire thought process. The only people who are capable of either unfettered action or unfettered thought are those who -- either because they're heroically brave, or because they're insane, or because they know themselves to be safe -- are free from fear.

Christies Is Recession-Proof

I don't want to turn this into an auction blog but when a diamond sells for $24.3 million, I simply must post a picture of it.

This is the Wittelsbach rare blue diamond. It is 35.56 carats and was sold at auction house Christies to diamond dealer Laurence Graff. Once upon a time it belonged to the Infanta Margarita Teresa who received it from her father King Philip IV of Spain on her wedding day.

Elizabeth Taylor is in her wheelchair drooling right now. And for once it's not because of her medication.

Are Auctions Becoming a Sign of the Times?

It's no secret that Michael Jackson has financial (I almost wrote facial, ha!) problems, but I have to wonder what, if anything, he's going to have left after this? He is auctioning off everything from the artwork he has bought to the famous white Thriller glove. I am assuming that this is a desperation move because this guy is all about acquiring and holding on to things as long as possible. And talk about bad timing! We're in a recession, obviously, and most people believe that he's a pedophile, and who wants a pervert's belongings?

We'll see how much he raises in the Spring when it all goes down. There are probably still some crazy super fans left. Hopefully they have deep pockets.

Legalize It Already

A bunch of people were arrested in Florida for their involvement in a Craig's List prostitution ring. Who cares. Why is this an issue anymore? It's fine for it to be legal in parts of Nevada, but not anywhere else in this country. We tax cigarettes and alcohol and those fine vices help pay for stadiums and education and politician's homes in the Cayman Islands. Why not hookers and pot? Might help solve the economic crisis we've got right now. Or, at the very least, make it more fun.

Oh, and baby, don't even think about it.
